Since 2004, the tax rate on dividends and capital gains is 15 percent, 18 percent, 21 percent. It certainly lagged the stock market and executive compensation. So the question is if tax efficiency is the issue, why weren’t buybacks the dominant way of returning cash pre 1981? They match up. RITHOLTZ: Right.
